🏠 Conroe Launch
Depart at 95–100%. Breakfast packed. Tesla navigation set to the private Airbnb address.
One electric chariot. Two grown-up drivers. A cottage in the Crystal Capital of the World. And one legendary young rockhound on the trail of sparkling treasure.
MISSION DATE: JULY 30–AUGUST 2, 2026 ✦Leave Thursday evening, July 30, but this is no longer an overnight marathon. Mount Ida is a manageable one-day adventure from Conroe. The most sensible birthday plan is to sleep at home, leave early Friday, and arrive rested enough to enjoy the cottage.
Depart at 95–100%. Breakfast packed. Tesla navigation set to the private Airbnb address.
Let the car choose the live stop. Nacogdoches is a listed Supercharger option on an eastern routing.
Charge, lunch, restroom, switch drivers. Optional two-state photo only if it fits the live route.
Check in after 3 PM. Arrive with a useful battery reserve; Mount Ida is rural and local fast charging is limited.
Road snacks, charger stretches, the forest getting hillier, then the cottage reveal. Evening mission: unpack tools and choose tomorrow's lucky rock bag.
Breakfast, mine check-in, safety talk, then Avi's full rockhound day. Photograph finds before cleaning and label every bag by location.
Pack the collection, photograph the cottage, check out before 10 AM, then make one daylight return stop if everyone has energy.
Protein, water, sunscreen, and a weather check. Freeze extra water bottles for the cooler.
Closed-toe boots, safety glasses, gloves, long pants, hat. Put name and phone number inside the collecting bucket.
Pay fees, learn boundaries and rules, ask what tools are allowed, and listen for heat/lightning procedures. Never enter a wall, ledge, trench, or closed zone.
July in Arkansas is hot and humid. Cool down before anyone feels sick. Thunder means leave exposed ground immediately.
Compare crystal faces, clarity, color, matrix, and damage. Pick a “find of the morning” and explain why it wins.
Choose the day's Story Rock, take a hero photo, and give it an official ridiculous name using the generator below.
Do not aggressively scrub unknown finds. Photograph dry, assign numbers, note where each came from, then pack separately.

Quartz is Mount Ida's signature treasure; fossil collecting availability depends on the actual permitted site. Always follow property and mine rules. Do not collect from road cuts, parks, protected land, private land, or any location without explicit permission.
