The Road to Mount Ida

Leave Thursday evening, July 30, but this is no longer an overnight marathon. Mount Ida is a manageable one-day adventure from Conroe. The most sensible birthday plan is to sleep at home, leave early Friday, and arrive rested enough to enjoy the cottage.

Fri 6:00–6:30 AM

🏠 Conroe Launch

Depart at 95–100%. Breakfast packed. Tesla navigation set to the private Airbnb address.

≈ 8:00–9:00 AM

⚡ East Texas Charge

Let the car choose the live stop. Nacogdoches is a listed Supercharger option on an eastern routing.

≈ 11:30 AM–1 PM

⚡ Texarkana Reset

Charge, lunch, restroom, switch drivers. Optional two-state photo only if it fits the live route.

≈ 3:00–5:00 PM

🏡 Crystal Cottage

Check in after 3 PM. Arrive with a useful battery reserve; Mount Ida is rural and local fast charging is limited.

Tesla reality check: exact stops depend on model, battery, temperature, speed, weather, starting charge, traffic, and live station status. Follow Trip Planner even when it differs from this page. Confirm overnight charging with the host—never assume an outlet is available or permitted.

Birthday Dig-Day Timeline

7:00 AM Saturday

🥞 Fossil-Fuel Breakfast

Protein, water, sunscreen, and a weather check. Freeze extra water bottles for the cooler.

8:00 AM

Closed-toe boots, safety glasses, gloves, long pants, hat. Put name and phone number inside the collecting bucket.

Mine opening time

💎 Report to Dig HQ

Pay fees, learn boundaries and rules, ask what tools are allowed, and listen for heat/lightning procedures. Never enter a wall, ledge, trench, or closed zone.

Every 30–45 min

💧 Hydration + Shade

July in Arkansas is hot and humid. Cool down before anyone feels sick. Thunder means leave exposed ground immediately.

Lunch

🔬 Field Lab

Compare crystal faces, clarity, color, matrix, and damage. Pick a “find of the morning” and explain why it wins.

Mid-afternoon

🏆 Birthday Specimen Ceremony

Choose the day's Story Rock, take a hero photo, and give it an official ridiculous name using the generator below.

Evening

📓 Cottage Catalog

Do not aggressively scrub unknown finds. Photograph dry, assign numbers, note where each came from, then pack separately.

Charging & Return Plan

MomentPlanAdventure job
Friday launch95–100% from ConroeDriver A starts; Avi receives Quest Book
East TexasLive-routed charge, typically 15–30 minRestroom, snack, first driver check
Texarkana corridorCharge enough for rural Arkansas + marginLunch and driver switch
Mount Ida arrivalAim for ≥20–30% unless navigation directs otherwiseConfirm legal overnight charging before plugging in
Sunday checkoutLeave before 10 AM; route to charger before rural reserve gets lowOne optional scenic stop, then home by evening
Return option: For a different view, let live navigation compare the Hot Springs/Little Rock corridor with the Texarkana route. Choose reliability and comfortable charge spacing over novelty. Do not add Crater of Diamonds on this short weekend unless tickets, heat plan, charging, and several extra hours are deliberately budgeted.

Sources & Grown-Up Notes

Generated illustration is celebratory story art, not a depiction of a particular mine, cottage, fossil occurrence, or real child. Quartz is Mount Ida's signature treasure; fossil collecting availability depends on the actual permitted site. Always follow property and mine rules. Do not collect from road cuts, parks, protected land, private land, or any location without explicit permission.
